Procrastination

I have known for more than a month that I was to give a speech at Toastmasters this Thursday. I have been thinking about what to say for the whole time, but I have changed subjects too many times. It is time to get to work and prepare for my speech.

The topic -- Eating the Whole Elephant.

The speech is supposed to take five minutes and use some visual aids. I was hoping I could find an elephant to use, but alas, we are fresh out of elephants. Of course I was just using a metaphore for planning, or setting goals.

With the new year here and the social pressure of new year's resolutions comes the process of thinking about and setting personal goals. The best thing about this year is that I can just use some of the goals from last year, since they are still to be accomplished.

I still have the materials to make a chest trunk for Anita. Maybe I will get that done this year. We were going to build it together, Anita and I, but never did.

There is also the patio expansion that I want to do in the back yard, and fix the gutters, and ....

I suppose that I need to eat my own dogfood and determine that I need to apply the principles that I preach.

Thoughts engender actions -->
Actions form habits -->
Habits develop a character -->
and Character determines your destiny -->

I need to remind myself of the things I need to do and do them. Maybe 2008 will be the year when I finish the waterbed I started 28 years ago.

  1. I would be most delighted to have your help. We could start with finishing the waterbed.
