An Epiphany

Not long ago I was listening to the History Channel while I was riding my stationary bicycle. I was listening to a discourse about the Mexican American war. It was amazing how the United States took territory from Mexico. Polk was deceptive in stationing troops beyond what Mexico considered her northern border to be the Nueces River, but he stationed troops along the Rio Grande. He did this with the intent of provoking Mexico to take action and allow him to make great claims to congress so they could declare war.

Because of the Mexican-American War the United States achieved what they called their Manifest Destiny of going for coast to coast. As a bonus, gold was discovered in California just after the acquisition of the territory that included Arizona, California, Utah, part of Idaho, New Mexico, part of Colorado, and part of Texas. The size of the United States doubled overnight.

I had an epiphany at that point that this was all part of a bigger plan. All through history there are events that lead to other events, where the chain of events are evidently destined for a final purpose. I am a product of the events of history. I have taken a great interest in history lately because now I can see the influences of one thing on another. The scriptures are replete with predictions that I see happening. It is amazing how things are hidden and couched in the scriptures that they become so clear when the spirit testifies of the applicability to a certain event or situation.

Down through the ages there has been divine guidance. People are allowed to follow or not follow, but the guidance is there. I know that Luther, Wesley, and Calvin were required to allow for my world. My technical world is making possible the sorting of the sheep from the goats at an accelerated rate. People are making the choice of whether they will serve as the Lord desires, or not, as Satan desires. The divide between those who serve and those who are selfish is becoming more and more marked. I am thankful that I have the opportunity to repent and have forgiveness. I am thankful for the atonement of Jesus Christ.

  1. The actual border between the United States and Mexico at one point was between Colorado Springs and Mexico. There is a monument marking the spot. The area we grew up in was part of Mexico.

Pike's Stockade near Sanford was actually built on Mexican territory. Zebulon Pike was arrested and taken to Mexico City as a prisoner.

While Betty and I were serving as missionaries among the Spanish Speaking people in Longmont, I was kidding one of the members about taking that land from Mexico. He jokingly responded that they are in the process of taking the territory back from us without an all out war.

By the way, I really like your new color scheme. It is much more appealing to me.

  2. So much has come clear as to why things are the way they are in politics because of what has happened in Texas.

I suppose I also understand so much more about Manassa after having read the history of Manassa.

  3. Where did you find a history of Manassa? I would be interested in reading it as well.
