Broken then fixed

The picture below tells quite a story. It is cool outside. I am busy at the computer. Eric is engrossed in his computing endeavors also. And I am at the end of my effort of getting my computer going again.

Yesterday at about the time I wanted to appease my addiction to the internet I was rudely interrupted by a computer problem. I had some sort of a problem with an application crash and was having trouble getting things working right. I decided to reboot my computer. It would not come back up in linux. The boot record had been corrupted somehow. I suspect I was the recipient of a malicious piece of code on a web site. I had someone post a link on my BLOG a couple days ago. I thought that it would be safe to just see what it was since I was not running a Microsoft Windows machine. I was wrong.

I decided to moderate all my messages. It was annoying. I changed it back. I am not sure where I will go with it now, but I hate (yes, I used the H word) what some jerks are willing to do to others as they remain anonymous. Maybe it is best they are anonymous.

I am back in business now. I have the webcam going. Flash works in Firefox. Thunderbird is working. I can now BLOG again. I can post one-liner comments to others BLOGs. I can post long responses to BLOGs too. I feel refreshed, sorta. But I am tired and need some sleep.

I guess I will have to wait until tomorrow to do something profound and significant. I am glad I was able to get my machine going again in just a couple hours. I didn't even lose any data.

I need to remember though. Backups are my friend. Backups are my friend. Backups are my friend. Backups are my friend. Backups are my friend.....

  1. I'm glad you are back online. I must admit, however, that unless I was sleepwalking, which is entirely possible, I did not call you this morning.

  2. I must apologize to you then Paul for accusing you of waking me. Eric answered the phone and told me that someone was asking if seminary was on. I asked him if it was Brother Romer and he replied in the affirmative. He must have been mistaken.

  3. Technology can be a frustration. I don't know enough, if my computer is messed up I don't know what to do with it. Larry I know that you have an exceptional ability with many things. Keep up the good work and thanks for the blog. Mom

  4. Larry, I missed you while you were out. I got a new machine today. The old one gave up. It will be nice to be able to keep up with you. It took me most of the day today to get the computer hooked up to my wireless network. I hunted and hunted for the network key until I remember where I backed it up. Backups are my friend too...

  5. Kent,

Tell us about your new machine. I will tell you about mine.

  6. My new machine is an HP Pavilion Notebook. It runs on Windows Vista (I know you won't approve.

I'm frustrated with the learning curve and getting my software from the old machine on to the new one. All has not gone smoothly. It has an on-board web cam, but I haven't learned to use it yet.

I am pleased with the speed and with the quality of the monitor. I don't think that Betty is pleased with the amount of time I am spending with it.

  8. Some of the computer problems are now behind me. I have been working feverishly on the computer most of my time off. I am sure that Jeanette is getting tired of me being always at this thing.

I am glad that you like the BLOGs. Kent was the driver in springing up the others. He has graciously allowed me to be co-administrator on them.

I have enjoyed the information that you have put up on the BLOGs. Please add details to the items you post. Most of the people that read the BLOGs do not know a person just by a first name, and some sort of relationship definition would help.
